Coaching creative work

Creation can be facilitated

New life is mid-wifed.

So are the realization of new ideas, the production of creative products, the transformation of our perspectives. As a coach, I observe and support the process of intentional change in support of inspiring goals. It is profoundly creative work.

For me, the best part of the creativity of coaching is that it’s a collaborative experience with my clients, most of whom have a creative objective they want to start, finish, or just enjoy a lot more.

Some of my clients might tell you they are not creatives, but there is a…

  • Change or innovation project they’re working on in their organization

  • Business idea they’ve been puzzling over

  • Career shift they’re considering

  • Way of relating to people that’s not working any more

  • Personal or professional goal that has been just that little bit too far out of reach for—how long has it been?

You’re right, they’re all doing creative work, and experiencing the ups and downs of the four-stage cycle of creative experience.

How do you stay un-stuck and accelerate your best work?

Some of my own best creative experiences have been supported by a coach. Most of my most frustrating creative attempts were projects I allowed myself to stay stuck in for far too long.

Whether you’re an artist or engineer, marketer or manager, what is your recent experience with your creative work, with or without coaching?

  • Is there something you’ve been plateaued or stuck in so long you feel like you’re just spinning up mud under your wheels?

  • What is that sticky, sticky problem that you need a breakthrough to get past?

  • Which idea would you like to do something with now, if only you had the ______?

  • How long have you not been finished with this thing, because it’s just so ______?

Check in with a professional coach and see how coaching might help you get farther, faster, and stronger in the process.

Are you clear about the challenges and responses of work in each stage? If yes, share what you know!
